U-20 World Cup at Swangard

Last Sunday I was fortunate enough to go to the U-20 soccer games at Swangard Stadium. A friend of mine had a pair of tickets but his wife couldn't make it, so he took me instead. It was awesome. The weather was great and we had good seats. It was a double header with Zambia vs Jordan in the first game, followed by Spain vs Uruguay. The first game ended in a 1-1 draw with Zambia opening the scoring on a penalty shot. Jordan was able to score just before the half while being one man down. In the second half Zambia also had a man sent off, so both teams ended the match with 10 players each. There was a group of about 30 Zambian supporters (possibly from Zambia or expatriots) near the top of the bleachers that kept chanting, singing, cheering and having a great time during the match. It was cool to see and lots of other people got into the spirit and started cheering for Zambia too. In the second game Uruguay got up to a quick 2-0 lead and looked as if they would run away with it. They certainly had more chances. However, Spain was able to get on the board late in the game. Once they got the first goal they continued to press and finally scored a dramatic goal in the final minute of injury time to tie the game 2-2. There was a lot more fan support for each team as we noticed by all the Spanish and Uruguayan shirts and flags.
